In the Fall of 2004, EWH and Duke University announced their decision to join hands and operate the Summer Institute from a headquarters at Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering.
The collaboration has benefited both institutions; EWH gained access to Duke’s excellent biomedical engineering department (currently ranked number two in the country by US News and World Reports) as well as heightened visibility in the international engineering scene, while Duke enjoys the privilege of housing a popular and respected charity.
Since their announced union, The Summer Institute has grown by leaps and bounds, establishing CUREs (Competition for Underserved and Resource-poor Economies) and the “Design for the Developing World” class for Duke undergraduates.
