OR in HEODRA, a public teaching hospital in Nicaragua.Through a competitive and collaborative business plan competition, CUREs works to educate and increase the pool of leaders who can start and grow technology-based social ventures. The competition gives students the opportunity to work together to turn innovative ideas into real-world business solutions.
Student teams go through the need finding, business development, and prototype development processes in either a formal competition or in an informal club or both. Those in the club receive business planning assistance from a panel of expert consultants, hundreds of dollars in funding to develop their business and technical ideas, and opportunities to practice their skills. Students in the formal competition can win thousands of dollars of support for their projects.
CUREs seeks to have wide-scale, long-term impact by facilitating the creation of social enterprises. We help students to build and grow nonprofits that increase access to quality medical care in developing communities. Each year, CUREs hopes to spin out at least one new social venture, eventually creating a portfolio of high-impact nonprofits.
