The second annual CUREs Final Competition took place on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. The Final Competition was hosted in partnership with the Duke Start-Up Challenge.The winner was ImaGyn. They are now in the process of launching their non-profit.
Grand Prize Winner for 2007 :
ImaGyn. - Theoderick Tam, Ram Balasubramanian, Adnan Haider, Gauravjit Singh ,Wynn Xiao Wu: Imagyn's goal is to equip clinicians in the developing world with an affordable and effective technology in the fight against cervical cancer. To achieve this goal, ImaGyn is developing a portable colposcope that can be used for timely screening and prevention of cervical cancer. With this product, ImaGyn hopes to contribute to the prevention of over 260,000 deaths a year worldwide due to cervical cancer. ImaGyn has partnered with FHM in the development of the scope to enable on-site clinicians to affordably and effectively perform screening procedures. The cerviscope, as they are calling their device, will be customized to meet medical performance requirements and it will include additional features to accommodate human factors and harsh environmental conditions. This product supports Visual Inspection using Acetic Acid (VIA), a cervical cancer screening method which is quick and accurate, and it enables the clinician to perform necessary follow-up treatment on the same-day visit.
The third year of CURES will begin in August of 2007.
