Engineering World Health's Summer Institutes are two-month service abroad programs for undergraduates, graduate students, and young professionals in STEM fields. The Summer Institutes place participants in the hospitals and clinics of low-resource countries. Participants will repair equipment, conduct preventative maintenance, take inventories, and train staff on how to maintain old, and operate new equipment.

For the first month of each program, participants will complete intensive language and technical training in-country. This training prepares participants for their work in hospitals during the second month of the program, providing hands-on skills needed to troubleshoot and repair vital hospital equipment in a low-resource environment. Teams of two or three participants are then placed in hospitals, working closely with hospital staff to asses each hospital's needs and improve their healthcare technology situation.

As EWH reaches new countries, each of our programs offers a unique opportunity for students. For the Summer of 2018, we have Summer Institute programs in Nicaragua, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania. Follow the links above to find out more.
